Bikers'Festival MotoGP Legend Randy Mamola Coming to the Bikers’Festival!

At DG Sport, we like to save the best for last! Less than two weeks before the 2026 edition of the Bikers’Festival, the organisers from Theux are delighted to announce the presence of one of motorcycle racing’s true icons. Although American rider Randy Mamola never claimed a world championship title, he remains one of the sport’s greatest legends. His record speaks for itself – 13 Grand Prix victories – but above all, he is remembered for his spectacular riding style.

Anyone who witnessed the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix will never forget it. Riding the factory Honda, Mamola was thrown off his bike in a left-hand corner… yet somehow never let go of the handlebars! For several dozen metres he literally "surfed" alongside the motorcycle before climbing back into the saddle. It remains one of the most extraordinary saves in Grand Prix history.

Born in California in 1959, Randy Mamola was originally… a drummer before turning to motorcycle racing. He became a professional rider at just 16 years of age and, four years later, entered the 250cc World Championship aboard a Bimota. After collecting several podium finishes, he moved to Yamaha before stepping up to the premier 500cc class with Suzuki.

His very first Grand Prix victory came… in Belgium, at the Zolder circuit, in 1980! After finishing runner-up in the world championship twice, Mamola joined Honda, where he earned a third world runner-up title. Never giving up, he returned to Yamaha in 1987, adding more podium finishes and top-three championship results, although the elusive world crown continued to escape him.

The arrival of the new generation, led by Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz and Mick Doohan, made the competition even tougher. At the end of the 1992 season, Mamola retired from professional racing. However, he never left the MotoGP paddock, quickly becoming a familiar and enthusiastic television commentator.

In 2018, Randy Mamola was inducted as a MotoGP Legend, becoming the only member of this prestigious group never to have won a world championship. His influence on the sport made the honour more than deserved.

On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, Randy Mamola will return to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps alongside his son Dakota. Although born in Barcelona, Dakota chose the nationality of his mother… making him Belgian!

Father and son will undoubtedly delight fans during autograph sessions and selfie opportunities, while also taking to the track together for one or more Parades. A truly unforgettable highlight awaits.
